Matt Jefferson established his career as the bass voice of the acclaimed trombone quartet Maniacal 4. With a wide variety of musical experiences, his versatility extends to classical and commercial music where he is equally versed on bass trombone, tenor trombone, and contrabass trombone. While he has performed with the Nashville Symphony, Chattanooga Symphony, Louisiana Philharmonic, Natalie Grant, Danny Gokey, Acadiana Symphony, and the Grammy-nominated One O’Clock Lab Band, he mainly works doing recording sessions ranging stylistically from television, film, and video game scores to pop artists to southern gospel music.
A graduate of University of North Texas, Matt has a true passion for teaching. He constantly challenges the limitations of traditional institutionalized education and encourages students to think outside the box. He enjoys the opportunity to maximize their learning potential and aid his students in achieving their goals, whether they be in music or in other aspects of life. During a three year period in Louisiana, he was a valued faculty member of Nicholls State University and is currently an adjunct artist at Lipscomb University. He created the Nashville Trombone Academy, a high school trombone ensemble designed to recreate a professional studio experience for students.
Matt attributes his success as a freelancer to his flexibility and curiosity that has led him to develop a freelance video production business, largely servicing others in the musical community. Matt is an enthusiastic sports fan and is always eager to talk about the Toronto Blue Jays or play fetch with his dog Ramsay. Originally from London, Ontario in Canada, Matt grew up in Calgary, Alberta and has made a home in Nashville, Tennessee.
